Finding Balance as a mum and a Newborn Photography business!
Can you be a business owner and a mum? This Has Never Been More Important
What a crazy 14 months we’ve had! No one could have predicted that we would find ourselves in the middle of a Worldwide Pandemic that would change life and business as we know it.
My words are not just for Newborn Photography Business mums, but for any mums running a business and in the same time taking care of a house hold.
I talk directly to my Newborn Photography fellows as this is what I know the best, even tough I run my husbands side of business also. Also I have done this blog as I haven’t done anything special for mothers day and I know that all newborn photographers were running their business for this special day.
So many fellow Newborn Photography business owners, sadly, haven’t made it through this uncertain time. For those of us still holding on to our business and praying we continue to stay afloat and grow, it’s never been more important to find a new sense of balance than now.
It’s not just Newborn Photography businesses that have been affected by this “new normal”. Businesses, workers, individuals and families have struggled to find their feet amongst the remote learning for kids, changing restrictions, and new requirements. Some families were forced to rely on Centrelink for the first time with many losing their job due to the pandemic. No one was prepared for this. Somehow our determination to keep life going has shown just how resilient we can be. But it takes work. So, what are some ways we can make sure that we find time to make family and self-care a priority?
1. Family Time
Family time is a necessity. Amongst all the chaos it’s easy to forget just how confusing this last year has been for our kids and teens. Prioritising family time gives you a chance to check in with each other, share things that might be concerning you, and have some much-needed fun together. Family time could be as simple as a picnic at the park or even movie night at home, or it could be a weekend away if you want to get out of town. Whatever it looks like for you, don’t forget to check in and make time for your family.
This is something a lot of people struggle with. There’s constant pressure to get work and family life right and often we forget to make time for ourselves. Making time for yourself isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. You can’t pour from an empty cup. When we drop the ball on self-care other areas start to suffer. Find time for you. A longer than usual bath with a wine and a good book. A few hours to yourself at the beach. A coffee and catch up with friends. A hair appointment or a massage. You know what makes your heart feel full. Make that a regular priority.
3. Re-evaluate Work
Are you over-committing to your Newborn Photography Sessions? Are you spending too much time on your business? Are you losing your passion in your business? Make a regular time to filter out the things that you don’t need to be doing. Outsource where you can to make life easier.
Some ideas to outsource:
website design: upwardconsulting
logo and other services: fiverr
editing and social media: upwork
Take on a fun personal project that gives you the chance to really express yourself and try something new and exciting. Catch up with other like-minded Newborn Photographers to network and connect with others in your industry. Maybe even book into a workshop or for some private mentoring to learn from another Newborn Photographer to stretch yourself. Invest in keeping the spark alive in your business by regularly re-evaluating how and why you do things.
There are so many ways to find your balance. However it looks for you, make sure you prioritise the time to make a plan for how you’re going to commit to creating a better Family, Self and Work Life Balance. We’d love to hear how you go.
