Learn posing, lighting, styling, camera settings, session preparation, workflow and newborn safety while photographing real models and receiving honest, constructive guidance tailored to your experience and goals.
Mentoring
Becoming a confident maternity or newborn photographer takes more than understanding your camera. It requires patience, practice, careful preparation and the ability to make every client feel comfortable and safe.
The right mentor can help you strengthen your skills, recognise what is holding you back and avoid many of the mistakes that photographers commonly make while learning
My maternity and newborn photography mentoring sessions combine practical experience with open, constructive feedback. You will be encouraged to ask questions, experiment and move beyond your comfort zone in a calm and supportive environment.
Whether you are beginning your photography journey or want to refine your existing skills, the mentoring experience will be adapted to your current ability and the areas in which you would most like to improve.
Before receiving professional mentoring myself, I spent years learning through practice, experimentation and plenty of mistakes..
I later had the opportunity to learn from respected photographers including Kelly Brown, Luisa Dunn, Sandra Hill and Russ Jackson. Their knowledge, passion and approach have helped shape my photography and the way I work with maternity and newborn clients today.
I now want to share what I have learned with other photographers. My goal is to help you better understand flattering light, thoughtful composition, safe posing and the practical workflow required to create beautiful and consistent images.
You will receive honest feedback, patient guidance and practical advice that you can apply to your own photography business.
Learn how to create elegant and flattering maternity portraits that help expecting mothers feel beautiful, comfortable and confident.
A pregnant model will be available during the practical component. We will photograph her using both natural light and studio lighting while exploring posing, angles, composition and client direction.
Photography session
Your full-day photography mentoring session is held in my home studio in Rochedale South, Brisbane.
The day is structured to give you practical experience as well as plenty of time to ask questions and discuss the challenges you are experiencing in your photography.
Your mentoring experience includes
Newborn photography requires specialised knowledge, patience and careful handling. A beautiful image should never come at the expense of a baby’s comfort or safety.
During newborn mentoring, we will discuss how to recognise a baby’s cues, support their head and body, use props responsibly and adjust poses when a baby is unsettled or uncomfortable.
The workshop provides practical guidance, but photographers should continue developing their newborn safety knowledge and work within their level of training and experience.
Every photographer arrives with different skills, questions and creative goals. Before your session, we will discuss what you would most like to learn so the mentoring day can concentrate on the areas that will provide the greatest value.
You may want help with posing, lighting, camera confidence, editing, portfolio consistency or managing the flow of a session. We can focus on the areas that will help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
My goal is for you to leave feeling inspired, supported and ready to apply what you have learned in your own sessions.
